About

Your Airway Speech Therapist

Meet Callie, MS, CCC-SLP

I’ve spent over a decade as a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist, earning my Bachelor’s degrees in Communication Sciences & Disorders and Spanish from Western Washington University, followed by my Master’s in Communication Disorders from the University of Texas at Dallas. I’m ASHA-certified and have been practicing for 12 years.

About six years ago, I discovered orofacial myofunctional therapy—and it completely changed how I understood the work I was doing. Suddenly, I could help patients who weren’t responding to traditional therapy because I finally had the tools to address the physical muscle patterns driving their struggles with speech, feeding, and breathing.

That’s what led me to specialize in OMT and build a practice focused on airway health. I’m bilingual, which allows me to serve more families in Northern Colorado, and I’ve dedicated my career to becoming the provider I wish my patients had access to from the start—someone who sees the whole picture and knows how to coordinate care that actually leads to lasting change.

The Backstory

Why I Do This Work

Hi, I’m Callie Halstead. I live in Berthoud, CO with my husband and two children. I founded Align in 2025 out of a desire to expand access to orofacial myofunctional therapy in Northern Colorado. I have been practicing speech-language pathology for over 10 years, but my journey to myofunctional therapy began in 2020.

While I’ve always wanted to have my own private practice, I never would have thought that myofunctional therapy would be my specialty. Why? Partly because I didn’t learn anything about in graduate school. No one does. I was fortunate enough to find an amazing, passionate mentor who opened my eyes to thinking about the role of tongue positioning and use as it relates to breathing, speech, and feeding. After completing intensive training courses and working with hundreds of patients, I’ve seen firsthand the amazing effect that myofunctional therapy has on the orofacial development of children. I’ve also seen how these relatively small changes can positively affect breathing and sleep in adults as well.

I’ve always been a goal-oriented person, and I’ve become obsessed with the undeniable results that these individualized interventions produce. I’m blessed beyond measure to get the opportunity to bring these services to Berthoud and beyond. I can’t wait to meet you and your family soon!

Brooke's Tongue-Tie Journey

I recognized that my daughter, Brooke, had both a tongue and lip tie when she was just an infant. However, she nursed well, transitioned to solids easily, and started talking “on schedule.” I initially decided against releasing the ties, as I wasn’t seeing functional issues. However, as Brooke progressed through toddlerhood, I began to suspect that her poor sleep was related to her tongue position and airway. I worked with her using myofunctional  therapy, which helped her stop mouth breathing during the day…but she still struggled at night. So I found a trusted release provider and moved forward with a tongue and lip tie release, or frenectomy, in the fall of 2025. Brooke almost immediately stopped mouth breathing and started sleeping better. After waking with a soaking pull up every night, within one month of the releases, she was dry at night, evidence that she was sleeping deeper and breathing well!
